Home-Style Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy
Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 slices thin-sliced whole-wheat bread, cut into cubes
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- 1/4 pound fresh shittak mushrooms stems removed and caps sliced
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 cup reduced-sodium beef broth
Instructions
- 1 preheat the broiler. spray a broiler rack with nonstick spray.
- 2. stir the beef, onion, bread, salt, and pepper together in a large bowl until well mixed. shape into four oval patties. Place the patties on the broiler rack and broil, 6-inches from the heat, until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the side of each patty registers 160 degrees about 6 minutes.
- 3. to make the gravy, heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. add the mushrooms and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, about 8 minutes. sprinkle the mushrooms withthe flour stirring to coat. add the broth and bring to a boil, stirring until the sauce bubbles and thickens. add the patties to the skillet, reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, 2-3 minutes.
